Our offices were so damp and musty that sometimes it was hard to breath. The floors had swollen and were buckling in several places. You could actually feel the moisture on the walls. I have a strong recommendation to make if you are ever in need of help with your crawl space! His name is Tom Saucier (aka The Crawl Space Doctor), and he has helped us immensely with our wet crawl space. Before we moved into our home a little over a year ago we were told that we would need to do something about the dampness in the crawl space, in that we were in danger of some serious structural damage if the dampness was not addressed soon. We had some work done in the backyard to try to divert some of the water from around the house, but this did not completely solve our problem. We initially went with a large, Nationally known company to make changes to the crawl space, but we were continually disappointed by their work, their lack of attention to detail, as well as their attitude toward us and our concerns. In the end, the Nationally known company was not the solution to our problem either. Then we met Tom and our crawl space problems were solved! His solution was thorough, well thought out, and effective. His work included digging a trench in our crawl space so that any excess water would be directed toward the sump-pump. He also installed a de-humidifier which regulates the level of humidity in our crawl space so that it is never too wet or too dry (both of which can cause problems!). In addition to Tom's efficient and effective solutions we were most impressed by his commitment to service, respect for his clients, and dedication to his work. He not only did the work that we hired him to do, but he also came by several times (on his own!) to make sure that his solution was still addressing our problem. "We spent thousands of dollars with a local company that did a very sloppy job and didn't do what they had promised. Luckily we consulted with Tom and he went down into the crawl space and took pictures to show us what was going on. I certainly didn't want to go in there, especially before Tom did his thing. The bottom line, Tom fixed the problem and we went from standing water in the crawl space to a dry crawlspace. Tom came by several times and checked his work, sometimes in the snow. Shortly after we moved into our new home early this Summer, the rains began. It rained hard for days. Most Bloomington residents told us it was very unusual to have so much rain. As one may well imagine, our crawl space soon became flooded.
Our air handling unit was under water and the house smelled musty. There was a good four inches of water around the air handler and in some places the water was seven inches deep against foundation walls.
Most of the fiberglass insulation was sagging, torn, or in some places used as nesting material for critters. The layer of plastic had also been ripped up and scattered about. We needed help.
Being new residents to Bloomington we no referrals. From the phone book we selected three people listed under "Crawlspace" in the Yellow Pages. One bid came from Indy, they were $1000-1200 more expensive for less work performed, and could not begin work for three weeks. One gentleman nver returned our call.
Tom Saucier, the Crawlspace Doctor not only came out the same day, but gave an on the spot estimate. His bid included removing all the trash, digging a french drain, routing it to a sump pump, installation of foam sheeting around the perimeter, sealing the vents, laying heavy drip guard, and the installation of a dehumidifier PLUS labor! His bid was by far more reasonable and more work was being done. Tom offered to start the next week. The job was complete in 3 days!
After the job, when the first big rain came again, Tom was there to inspect and make sure everything was working properly. Tom is neat and professional in both his appearance and manner. I highly recommend the Crawlspace Doctor for your job. I know we sleep easier knowing our crawl space is dry, mold free, and clean.
